Don’t judge this apple crumb pie slice on the sub-par photography. It’s delicious.
This recipe uses 3 1/4 pounds of granny smith apples. When you put them in the pie pie pan they form an eight-inch high mound. Baking the pie reduces the height, but the real transformation happens after you take it out of the oven. The apples completely deflate over the course of two hours and end up at just the height of the pie pan.
